Hey! Welcome to my blog! This is where I journal about recent weddings, engagements sessions, and even my travels.

Hi, I'm Karissa.

Three Ways to Break Wedding Traditions

Todays couples are all about breaking wedding traditions. Couples more than ever are crafting their day to reflect who they are rather than confining themselves to the norm. But breaking tradition is so much more than the bride just not wearing a white dress. I hope this post inspires you to think outside the box and start thinking of ways you can forgo traditions that may not mean anything to you and replace them with your own unique ones.

The Bouquet doesn’t have to be a bouquet or even flowers!

I have seen all sorts of bouquet ideas from vintage brooches to stalks of wheat and even flower hoops. The bouquets can be whatever you want them to be (puppies, please make them puppies) or none at all!

The Toasts

I challenge you to rethink the wedding toast. If having your best friends stand up in front of everyone and give a speech about you and your love is not for you…it doesn’t have to be done that way. I once photographed a wedding where the bride and groom toasted their guests and totally turned the tradition on its head!

The Cake

Ditch the cake, let’s eat ice cream instead! You do not have to have the ceremonial cutting of the cake or even a cake for that matter. If you like ice cream or something else better, do that because it’s your day!

These are just a few of the endless possibilities of ways to break out of the wedding tradition mold and make your wedding more uniquely YOU. Now by all means, I am not putting down tradition at all. I literally eat up all this mushy stuff, traditional or not. What I am simply trying to say is… do not feel limited by tradition, and if you do not like one, make it your own!
